Students from Around the World Kick Off Global Finals 2019
Last night, student teams from 38 states and 17 countries packed the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri to kick off Global Finals—an international competition that fuses creativity with STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics). From designing and building aircraft to solving real-word issues in communities around the globe, the top-scoring Destination Imagination (DI) teams are showcasing their innovative solutions to this season’s DI Challenges all week. These are some of the most creative problem solvers in the world and it’s taken a lot of hard work, creativity, risk-taking and perseverance to get to this level.
Destination Imagination also welcomed Golden Globe-winning actor, #1 New York Times bestselling author, screenwriter and producer, Chris Colfer. Colfer, who participated in Destination Imagination as a teen. Colfer was at the Welcome Ceremony to support DI teams and receive DI’s Icon Award, which is given to a DI alumnus or alumna who has made a game-changing contribution to their industry and who inspires current DI participants to achieve anything they can do in life. The award was presented by DI’s Alumni Council.
In addition to the tournament, Global Finals offers its participants the opportunity to take part in a variety of events, including workshops, team-building activities and interactive exhibits to help them further foster their creativity and learn new skills. They also have the opportunity to meet students from different countries and cultures.
Nearly 1,200 Destination Imagination teams will be competing in the international competition through Saturday.
