Destination Imagination, Inc. and Visit Knoxville have partnered to offer a variety of fun and educational off-campus tours for you to enjoy when your team is not competing. Reservations are required. No refunds or exchanges. All purchases must be made with a credit card. Tour desk will be available for credit card purchases at registration at TRECS on Monday, May 21 and Tuesday, May 22. All tour sales will end at 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 22.

 Dollywood

Dollywood

Dollywood is a unique and thrilling theme park that delivers an entertainment experience unlike any other. Its one-of-a-kind atmosphere combines the charm and beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains with rustic architecture and scenes straight from the 1950s. Thousands of colorful flowers provide the perfect panoramic backdrop for live music shows, unique attractions, fun-for-all rides, craft showcases and special events.

The Dollywood Only ticket prices include one discounted park ticket and meal voucher, but groups will be on their own for transportation to and from the park. The Dollywood Express ticket price includes deluxe bus transportation in addition to the discounted park ticket and meal voucher. All-day tour. Tour dates available:

Dollywood Express (with transportation):  Thursday, May 24: 8:45 AM – 5:30 PM; Friday, May 25: 8:45 AM – 5:30 PM You must be at the tour bus stop on campus at 8:30 AM the morning of your tour date. Tour buses will NOT pick up at hotels or residence halls. You will board the bus at 4:30 PM and return to campus by 5:30 PM.

Dollywood Ticket Only (without transportation): Wednesday, May 23; Thursday, May 24; Friday, May 25; Saturday, May 26 You will have to provide your own transportation to and from the park with this ticket option.

Chemistry

Adventures in Chemistry

Get your science on in this hands-on science and chemistry workshop designed for students in grades 4 – 7.  You will work in small groups and perform experiments under the supervision of University of Tennessee professor, Dr. Hazari. Since this workshop will take place on campus, transportation will not be provided. There will not be a lunch provided with this tour. You will need to eat breakfast and/or lunch at your designated meal location before or after your session depending on the session time you choose. Half-day tour.

Limit of 25 spots available per session. No adults allowed. Parents may stay at the site of the session, but they may not participate in the session. There are no children allowed in the room other than the paying participants. You will meet your tour guide at Dabney-Buehler Hall (Room 334) 15 minutes prior to your session.

Experience the world from a brand-new perspective — from the treetops! Navitat Knoxville’s aerial adventure and tree-based zipline park at Ijams Nature Center is a one-of-a-kind, “choose your own adventure” aerial playground. From the main treehouse, choose from six different “adventure trails” of various levels of difficulty — there’s something for everyone, ages seven and up! Following an initial briefing with Navitat’s expert Adventure Crew, you’ll have time to explore and play in the park. Enjoy unique environmental artwork installations and creative educational theming throughout. To participate, you must be at least 7 years old and weigh between 30 and 265 pounds. Participants must come dressed for the weather as if you are going on a hike. Closed-toe shoes are required. Pants or longer shorts are recommended to be more comfortable with the harnesses. There will not be a lunch provided with this tour. You will need to eat breakfast and/or lunch at your designated meal location before or after your session depending on the session time you chose. Half-day tour.

Upper Pigeon River Rafting

Smoky Mountain Rafting on the upper Pigeon River is one wild ride! Experience an exciting 6.5-mile raft trip down class 3 and 4 rapids through the heart of the Smoky Mountains. Certified guides will navigate the entire trip, sharing their love of splashing through big waves, maneuvering around rocks, and enjoying the beauty of being in the great outdoors. Trips go rain or shine! Never fear, the Big Pigeon River is for the inexperienced and experienced paddlers. Big waves, big drops and plenty of surfing will assure that you have the time of your life! Participants must be at least 8 years old or 70 pounds. Shorts, bathing suit or t-shirt and secure fitting shoes are recommended. You will get wet! Jeans, denim, flip-flops or bare feet are NOT allowed. Bring a dry towel, dry clothes and dry shoes for after the trip. All day tour and lunch will be provided.

Local-Motors

Exploring 3-D Technology with Local Motors

Local Motors features a world of vehicle innovations and more. The company combines co-creation and micro-manufacturing to bring hardware innovations to market. See the famous 3-D printer that printed “Strati”—the world’s first 3-D printed car—and discover the other amazing things it can build. (Ask about Olli the self-driving shuttle!) The Local Motors micro-factory is a collaboration between Local Motors and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. At the micro-factory, you will get a behind the scenes look at the three-phased manufacturing process for 3-D printing, including additive, subtractive and rapid assembly. There will not be a lunch provided with this tour. You will need to eat breakfast and/or lunch at your designated meal location before or after your session depending on the session time you chose. Half-day tour.

Learn how to cook like a Chef and have fun doing it! Fun, safe and exciting classes will be provided for all skill levels. You will learn from the best Chefs in the area, meet new friends, cook like a pro, and enjoy what you have created! Half day tour.

Sliders, Shakes & Sides for Kids Wednesday, May 23: 9:15 AM – 12:45 PM

Your child will have tons of fun learning how to prepare delicious sliders and amazing sides. Chef will teach kids basic food safety skills, cooking techniques, and proper food handling as he guides kids through this hands-on, interactive class. We will prepare fresh sliders, pomme frites, and tasty designer milkshakes! Instructor: Chef John Alunni. Demonstration/Hands-On. Ages 9 – 15.

Parent/Child Mastering Basic Sushi – Thursday, May 24: 9:15 AM – 12:45 PM

Want to learn how to roll incredible sushi? Then join us for this amazing fun and hands on sushi class! We will cover the ins and outs from the ground up, prepare perfect sushi rice, and then move on to preparing ingredients and sides such as wasabi and pickled ginger. Each student will roll and prepare their own sushi as our Chef demonstrates and guides you through the process. The meal to follow will be incredible! You and your child will be able to use what is learned in this class to prepare your very own sushi at home! Price is for one parent and one child and includes all supplies and ingredients. Instructor: Chef John Alunni. Demonstration/Hands-On. Ages 5 – 12 with adult.

Cupcake Wars Imagination for Kids – Thursday, May 24: 1:15 PM – 4:45 PM A unique and fun competition, Food Network style! Great for children of any skill level. Teams will compete with each other while baking and decorating cupcakes to a Destination Imagination theme. Prizes will be awarded to winning teams. Ages 9 – 15.

Artisan Pizza Making for Kids – Friday, May 25: 9:15 AM – 12:45 PM

In this fun, interactive, and hands-on class, kids will explore how to prepare pizza dough and the methods used in pizza making. Chef will walk students through the dough making process, proofing, forming, topping, and baking pizzas. When we pull the pizzas out of the oven, we will enjoy our handy work! Instructor: Chef John Alunni. Demonstration/Hands-On. Ages 9 – 15.

Parent/Child Cake Decorating with Fondant and Buttercream – Friday, May 25: 1:15 PM – 4:45 PM

In this fun, interactive and hands-on class, you and your child will learn how to decorate cakes with fondant. Our Baking Instructor will walk you through the process of coloring, rolling, and applying fondant to a cake. Then you will cut shapes out of fondant and decorate your own cakes! Price is for one parent and one child and includes all supplies and ingredients. Ages 5 – 12 with an adult. Limit of 24 participants per class. Bowling

Eat. Bowl. Play.

Main Event is the destination for fun, featuring approximately 49,000 square feet of excitement for all ages! With state-of-the-art bowling, multi-level laser tag and over 100 arcade games, the enjoyment never ends. Guests will have access to bowling, billiards, laser tag, gravity ropes course with zipline, and a $10 FUNcard to be used in the arcade. Two slices of pizza from La Bella’s pizza and a medium drink will also be provided. You will have 4 hours to play, make memories, and relax with friends. Half-day tour. Participants must be 48’’ tall to participate in gravity ropes and laser tag.
