on-site times and procedures
Your first stop once you reach campus will be TRECS, where you will go through Registration and Orientation. Only Team Managers or adult representatives from each team will be allowed to enter the Registration Area. (Only one representative per team, please.) The team, parents, supporters and siblings are asked to remain outside, where they can take part in the entertainment, relax a little bit or join in the pin-trading fun.
You may want to bring a tote bag in order to carry all the materials you will be given in the Registration Area. University staff will be available for tour and excursion questions, directions and general information. (This is also where you should go if you need replacement Event Passes, wristbands, etc.) Registration hours are as follows:
| Day | Registration Opens | Registration Closes |
| Monday | 2:00 p.m. | 11:00 p.m. |
| Tuesday | 10:00 a.m. | Midnight |
| Wednesday | 9:00 a.m. | 5:30 p.m. |

| Friday | 7:30 a.m. | 5:00 p.m. |
| Saturday | 7:30 a.m. | Noon |
Please note: Registration will close on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. for Opening Ceremony. Please plan to be in line by 3:00 p.m. to ensure that you will be finished with your registration process (including checking into your assigned housing and eating your dinner) in time for Opening Ceremony.
Upon leaving registration, you should have:
- A housing assignment, and instructions on where to get keys
- Parking information
- A cafeteria location and meal bracelets
- Event Passes to get you, the team, supporters and spectators into all events
- Tour and field trip information, and maps on where to find everything

- Challenge-specific information from your International Challenge Masters
- Information on when and where you are being picked up if you purchased an airport transfer
team hotel housing
Teams cannot request a particular residence hall or hotel. Teams may check the Web site approximately 1 week before Globals to see whether their Affiliate has been assigned to a residence hall or hotel.
Continual shuttles will service all locations. Evening entertainment will also be held at some team housing off site properties, depending upon the numbers.
If your team is assigned to a hotel, please plan to achieve an average occupancy of three people per room (e.g., a team of 6 people would receive 2 rooms to use as they wish, and a team of 9 people would receive 3 rooms). In cases where there are extra paid people, a limited number of roll-away beds are available to increase room occupancy.
residence hall housing
University personnel assign housing based on Affiliate participation. Teams cannot request a particular residence hall or hotel. Teams may check the Web site approximately 1 week before Global Finals to see whether their Affiliate has been assigned to a residence hall or hotel.
If your team is assigned to a residence hall, please plan to group your team members in groups of two to four. If you have fewer than two in your room assignments, you should be prepared to have roommates from another team. If your group has more than four people who wish to stay together, roll-away beds are available to increase room occupancy.
additional information
etiquette and attitudes
It is a privilege and an honor to be at Global Finals. There will be people from many countries and about 1000 teams in attendance. Please have your team behave with the respect and dignity the situation requires. Respect for the University’s property, for one another, and for all program participants and officials is expected. Teams are also expected to show good sportsmanship.
linens and towels
All residence hall and hotel rooms will include all necessary bed linens and towels. Hotels have standard housekeeping services. In residence halls, participants will receive a top sheet, bottom sheet, blanket, pillow and pillowcase, and towels at check-in. Daily towel exchange and emergency linen exchange will be available at each residence hall front desk. It is not a bad idea to bring a pillow and/or blanket from home if you are assigned to a residence hall: each hall only has enough of these items to provide one per person.
lost keys
All residence hall keys must be turned in upon checking out. Any key not returned at check-out will incur a $30 lost key charge payable at check-out. Due to the frequent usage of residence halls and for security purposes, a lost key results in completely removing the lock from the door and installing a new one. This occurs immediately after the event. Any lost key charges will be the responsibility of the occupant of the room for which the key was lost, or the Team Manager responsible for that room.
transportation on and around campus
Shuttle buses moving from the campus and off-campus Presentation Sites and team hotels will transport you and your teams throughout your stay at Global Finals. Always permit adequate time for travel when going from one place to another.
Some Team Managers and/or parents choose to rent a vehicle to move about. With an event of this size (approximately 16,000 people), parking can be a challenge. If you bring your own vehicle, check at registration with University officials as to where and when you park it.
wireless and wired internet service
Use of the University’s wireless Internet system is limited to University of Tennessee staff and students. Each residence hall room has phone lines available for dial-up service if you are calling out to a toll-free number. Each residence hall public area also has one or more terminal(s) available for checking e-mail. Most hotels have wireless Internet service available in sleeping rooms. Please check with the front desk for details and availability.
your team’s schedule
The team’s schedule during the four/five days at Global Finals should be set by the Team Manager(s).
The Team Manager(s) should determine when the team eats, sleeps, puts props back together, rehearses, practices Team and Instant Challenges, trades pins, goes swimming, etc.
One organized leader makes for a cohesive team and group of parents and siblings. You will be doing everyone a favor if you let the parents know when and where you would like their children.
