This award is given for having a unique approach to a solution, for risk taking, and/or for outstanding creativity (not skill or talent). |
| Ocean View Elementary During their thirty minute studio time, this team used their materials in an especially unique and creative way. Their innovative design of the bird costume, beak, and wings not only awed the appraisers, but made the Ninja movements of the bird that "flew too low" a performance that all who saw it will never forget. |
The Renaissance Award |
This award is given for outstanding skill in the areas of engineering, design, or performance. |
| Haldane Central School The Superstition Origin Detector designed by this team demonstrated extraordinary skill in the area of design and engineering. This sophisticated device moved entirely on its own. With a propeller in front to highlight the spinning effect, fishing line spools were used as wheels and as a pulley system that looped around the dowel on top. The looped line, propelled by washers, connected to a "sleeve" on the PVC, which moved the detector across the stage. Centerville Ohio With Prince Prance-A lot, the Lolli-pop gang, the tough street gang, and Princess Chewbacca, this team excelled in every aspect of a complicated challenge. From the clear detailed presentation of their three film genres to their declaration of "time" which we have never before seen in the form of a song, they awed the entire appraisal team from the StuDIo to the stage. To top it off they built a Superstition Origin Detector that actually was two separate inter-dependent devices in one. Their display of engineering, technical design, and performance clearly makes them a poster team for the Renaissance award. |
